Surviving in a TEOTWAKI situation

I love scenario threads, im hoping this board will give this topic new perspective.

TEOTWAKI is an acronym that means "The end of the world as we know it." Its generally assosciated with the collapse of modern western society, such as nuclear war or massive drought/famine or civil war or climate change or massive resource shortages, or there are thousands of possible reasons we coule see a TEOTWAKI situation, though most of them are pretty unlikely really.

Myself, i don't really have any weapons but my current plan is to stay put and try to bunker down in the city, since the highways will all be jammed and with millions of people flocking to the countryside, being out in the wilderness would probably be worse than dealing with whoevers left and they will strip it of all survival resources anyway - only after a few years when most people have died will animals and forests start growing back enough to sustain people. This is assuming we have an overnight TEOTWAKI where everyone wakes up and suddenly the the shit hits the fan. If there ever was a disaster scenario, its probably going to be a slow decline first into recession, depression and then economic collapse, in which case as soon as i get fired and i cannot see myself beng able to support myself i would go wild.

That covers plan. Preparations i have taken are gathering a good knowledge of not general survival knowledge but local geography and local survival knowledge: local fish and how to catch them, local edible plants, weather patterns etc. etc. Knowledge aside, gear s pretty basic camping gear that is really just my backpacking pack with some extra food. Lots of canned tuna and some MRI's. I have a decent amount of rice stocked up incase we face the slow decline scenario i described earlier. Rice isn't good trail food but its cheap, easy to store and a little lasts a long time. Also only takes water and heat to cook.

No way to finish up i suppose except - Discuss.

A post after 2 years, better late than never? I'm not sure where to start...Hmm...Ok lets suppose you hunker down in the city. First, and I quote you "don't really have any weapons". However I assume there are gun shops in your city, or sporting goods stores? As well there are police stations where there are guns/weapons. Those with the guns who are of the undesirable nature, will be inclined to obtain these weapons with the ones they already have, and you know, just how much scumbags just love the police. Who will be out numbered, or who may just say I quit(like they did in katrina)or participate in the dirty deeds. All cops aren't officer friendly! You saw how long it took help to arrive in Old Orleans, and that was just a hurricane were talking f-ing TEOTWAKI here. So my point is when these armed scumbags band together to become merry marauding murderers, and then smell you cooking tuna & rice whats gonna stop them from having dinner at your place? Don't be a victim! Get weapons!(5.56,45acp,12ga.30.06,50bmg)& ammo for them, without it they are big paper weights. Then aquire the safty/skill to use them. Learn selfdefense/protection techniques! Learn how to hunt & trap for profit & food, then teach a kid the same cause we don't live forever. Stock up freeze dried food with Xtra-long shelf life in #10 cans at least a year supply per person per house hold. I like the mountain air brand but there are others. Learn how to cook like they did back in the day, way back in the day like baking, canning, preserving, smoking, salting, processing grains, etc.. Learn basic micro-farming & container gardening techniques like keeping/growing edible plants in containers. That's just for starts...I encourage all to reply. Every good American should know this kinda stuff, don't get caught up in the city blindness as I like to call it we are not sheep.

best weapon to get is a .22 gun. .22 ammo is plentiful and available in any hunting/gun/outdoors store. hell, even walmart has it. Used crrectly a .22 is just as effective as a larger caliber. I myself own about 6 rifles (2 of which are .22's) and 4 handguns, plus a large collection of medieval weapons (not the display kind) and several suits of chainmail and kevlar vests. If it happens, hit me up in NJ. I'm set.
